Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Fridley High School.  My name is Patty Hand and I am the head principal at FHS.  As I begin my fourth year as head principal, I am thrilled to serve as a member of this caring community whose focus is to support success for each and every student.  I believe strongly in leading a culturally responsive community of learners, in which students, staff members, and families collaborate to support our climate to ensure it is a caring, inclusive community for all.  This belief will anchor all my work and will focus all ideas, thoughts, and decisions made in the best interest of our students.

Our community is centered around iBelong. We strive to make sure Fridley High School is the Best Place to Learn and the Best Place to Work.

iBelong stands for the following:

Be the real me.

Embrace situational appropriateness.

Learn my responsibilities.

Own my learning/mistakes.

Notice my impact on others.

Graduate.

To give you a bit about my background, I began my career as an English teacher for many years at Park Center High School, in the Osseo School District.  I later became a dean of students at Fridley High School for one year, then moved to St. Michael-Albertville High School to work as their assistant principal for two years.  I transferred to the Hopkins School District and, over eight years, served in the roles of assistant principal, associate principal, and five years as the head principal at Hopkins High School.

I am happy to serve as the head principal at Fridley High School and look forward to working with your students this school year.

Again, welcome to Fridley High School as we embark on an exciting, new school year. Go Tigers!

Sincerely,

Patty Hand
Principal

School districts rely on state and local funding to support and maintain their schools.  On November 5, 2019, Fridley Public Schools will ask its community to approve an operational levy referendum. Funds from operational levies are used to support academic programs for students, staffing and student support services such as social emotional learning and mental health services.

Referendum Question: Revoke the district's existing referendum revenue authorization of $187.43 per pupil and replace it with a new authorization of $497.43 per pupil.  The proposed referendum would increase each year by the rate of inflation and be applicable for 10 years.

Fridley Public Schools will have an operating levy on the November 5, 2019 ballot. The school district is seeking additional funding to support academic programs that enhance and enrich student learning, strengthen student support services that include social emotional learning and mental health, and support current class sizes and staffing levels. The current operating levy is set to expire in 2025 and the district will ask its voters to revoke and replace it with a new levy authorization.

For parents and community members to learn more about the operating levy, the district is hosting a second informational session.
