Fridley Public Schools is pleased to announce that Veronica Mathison has been named the new principal of R. L. Stevenson Elementary School. She will replace long-term principal Daryl Vossler who announced his intent to retire at the end of this school year. Mathison will begin her new role on July 1, 2020.
Mathison currently serves Fridley Public Schools as a district International Baccalaureate Coordinator and math coordinator. She joined the district in 2005 as a math teacher at Fridley Middle School and has since served as math teacher and instructional coach at the middle school, and district math coordinator and instructional coach. Prior to Fridley, Mathison worked in Minneapolis Public Schools as a middle school math teacher, high school transition coordinator, and afterschool and summer school coordinator.
While at Stevenson, Mathison served as a Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) leader for development of proactive school-wide behavior systems. She also maintained partnerships with community members and Medtronic, helping bring $250,000 funding support for Stevenson including a STEM lab.
Among her work as an IB Coordinator, Mathison implemented all aspects of the school’s PYP IB Programme. She facilitated staff development and provided training to principals and district administrators on IB practices.
Mathison received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the Minnesota State University, Mankato; a master’s degree in education from Saint Mary’s University, and an education specialist, K-12 principal licensure from St. Thomas University.
