Fridley Public Schools welcomes teachers back for upcoming school year
Posted 08/30/2017 09:55AM

Fridley Public Schools held its annual Opening Workshop on August 28, 2017 to welcome staff back to a new school year. After a long summer, teachers and district staff gathered in the auditorium to kick off the beginning of the 2017-18 school year. This year, Fridley Public Schools welcomed a total of 54 new employees to the district.

As in years past during the Opening Workshop, the district also recognizes outstanding employees by honoring them with awards, including the Teachers of Excellence Award, the 25 Years of Service Award and the Employee of the Year Award.

Five teachers representing each of the district’s schools, including the Area Learning Center, were named the 2016-17 Teachers of Excellence. This year’s honorees included Diane Nordin (Fridley Middle School), Candice St. Martin-Riley (Hayes Elementary School), Jennifer Coelho (Stevenson Elementary School), Jeren Anderson (Fridley High School) and Alissa Blood-Knafla (Area Learning Center).

The 25 Years of Service award serves as a thank you to employees who have worked in the district for 25 years. The five employees recognized this year are: Kristi Sabby (Community Education program coordinator), Michelle Barrett (Stevenson Elementary School teacher), Pam Donley (Stevenson Elementary School teacher), Rebecca (Thompson) Reynolds (Stevenson Elementary School teacher), and Kathy Moore (secretary to Fridley Middle School Assistant Principal).

This year’s Employee of the Year award was presented to Communications Specialist David Webber. The Employee of the Year is selected among the Employee of the Month honorees over the past school year. The recognition and honor is given to a non-teaching employee who has shown dedicated and exemplary service to the Fridley Public Schools district.

Fridley High School alumni, who now work for the district, joined Activities Director Dan Roff on stage to sing the Tigers Fight Song.
