Abigail Ladwig, a senior at Fridley High School, has been awarded the 2017 Horatio Alger Minnesota Scholarship. Ladwig is one of ten students from Minnesota to receive the scholarship.
Her award is in the amount of $10,000 and was announced to her on February 9, 2017. She found out about her receiving the scholarship via email, but it didn’t quite register at first.
“I got an email from the organization, but it started out by stating expectations and guidelines,” Ladwig said. “It was until I scrolled down and read the dollar amount and how it’s distributed that I realized, ‘WOW! That’s a lot!’”
Ladwig plans on attending either the University of Minnesota or Arizona State University, and is looking into a marketing major.
She applied for the scholarship last fall after receiving information from Jessica Baker, IB Coordinator at Fridley High School. This is the second year in a row a Fridley student has received the award (last year, 2016 graduate Praise Hall received the honor).
Named after the author, the scholarship strives to promote the values of can-do spirit and individual initiative exemplified in his books. Congratulations Abigail!
